Brightening the world with Advanced Photonics platform

Optical Communications

Fiber-optic communication is an advanced light transmission system through optical fiber. There are overwhelming advantages over existing copper wires in long-distance and high-demand applications due to lower attenuation and interference.

Nowadays, optical fiber is in the telecommunications industry for transmitting telephone signals, internet communication and cable television signals. Amonics provides the industry with a broad portfolio of optical communication components, modules, and subsystems applications throughout the network. This includes both active and passive components for telecommunications, data communications, and cable television.

Applications

Amonics offers a wide range of equipment to the optical communication industry. Our main products include both optical sources and transmitters for converting an electrical signal into an optical signal, followed by signal modifications through optical fiber and appropriate types of amplifiers, and finally optical receivers to recover the signal to electrical signal. The information transmitted can be digital or analogue generated by computers, telephone systems, and cable television companies.

Fiber To The Home (FTTH) EDFAs are commonly used to amplifiy and deliver of a communications signal over optical fiber from the operator’s switching equipment all the way to a home or business. It provides higher bandwidth, efficiency and stability to consumers and businesses, and thereby enabling more robust video, internet and voice services.

FTTH EDFAs are compatible with FTTH PON Technology. This reduces the cost and introduces more flexibility to the commumication system. By enhancing system performance, it facilitates further applications in long-haul, high data rate fiber optic communication systems

Fiber To The Home (FTTH) EDFAs made with high power pump laser and high stability pump combiners are robust in high power boosting. The EDFAs possess high output power, high gain with very low noise, and are ideal for FTTH network amplification. Integrated CWDM splitters are available to enable the routing of 1310nm and 1490nm data streams from OLT to ONU through EDFAs. Total output power can be up to +40dBm.

The transmission distance of a fiber-optic communication system has been limited primarily by fiber attenuation and secondly by fiber distortion. The solution is to use an optical amplifier, which enhances the optical signal directly without having to convert the signal into the electrical domain. Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs) are Amonics' specialist products.

Dense Wavelength-Division Multiplexing (DWDM) is the practice of dividing the wavelength capacity of an optical fiber into multiple channels in order to send more than one signal over the same fiber. Amonics can provide optical communication solution fully integrated with DWDM technology, such as DWDM EDFAs.
